Murder at the U.S. State Department?
Heinous Crimes, Latest news, World news Tuesday, December 14th, 2010Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke has died following emergency surgery over the weekend to repair a tear to his aorta. On Friday, Holbrooke was rushed to George Washington University Hospital where doctors performed a 20-hour surgery in an attempt to repair a lacerated aortic. Halbrooke was in a meeting at the State Department with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when an injury to his aortic occurred. Doctors struggled for 20 hours to control the bleeding after he suffered a tear in the major artery.
The aortic is largest artery in the body. The aorta arises from the left ventricle of the heart, goes up (ascends) a little ways, bends over (arches), then goes down (descends) through the chest and through the abdomen to where ends by dividing into two arteries called the common iliac arteries that go to the legs.
Successful treatment of a penetrating wound of the aorta is uncommon. Surviving a gunshot or stab wound of the abdominal aorta usually results in anoxic cardiac arrest. Long-term survival following a wound of the aorta has been unusual. Thoracic aortic and intrapericardial aortic bullet wound survivors are no more common.
Richard Holbrooke’s death comes at a critical time for US policy, with the Obama administration due to conduct a review of its troop surge in Afghanistan and the US genocidal campaign against the Taliban on both sides of the Afghan-Pakistan border.
Holbrooke and a host of other dignitaries from around the World see the Afghan war as unwinnable. Holbrooke remarked that victory in Afghanistan is like pornography in that “you know it when you see it”. In 2008, Brigadier Mark Carleton-Smith, the commander of the British 16 Air Assault Brigade said: “We can’t defeat the Taliban.” “In my opinion, a military victory over the Taliban was ‘neither feasible nor supportable’. He and General Stanley McChrystal have admitted publicly that the whole strategy up until now has been a mistake. The situation in Afghanistan cannot improve no matter what is done as regards military strategy. It’s all about the white stuff. The illicit heroin (heroin is made from the Opium that is grown under the protection of US and NATO forces) drug trade completely undermines anything else the USA and Britain can do in Afghanistan and that is not something that either is prepared to give up on.
Afghanistan provides the most dramatic example of how US drugs policies are undermining strategic interests in one of the most dangerous parts of the world. In 2001 the Taliban had completely wiped out the Opium grow operations and trade. The UN and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency went to Afghanistan in the early part of 2001 and they both confirmed that the Taliban had indeed destroyed all Opium operations. For the first time in more than a century the Taliban was helping the country achieve economic prosperity with the proposed development of a Trans-Afghan natural gas pipeline through Afghanistan. It was the Taliban who approached US oil companies to build this pipeline through Afghanistan. But after the US, under the Clinton Administration, demanded complete control of this project – from building the pipeline to controlling the flow after completion – the Taliban awarded the building project to another country. It was this self-governing decision by the Taliban that got the Clintons to start preparation for a war of aggression against Afghanistan – to overthrow the Taliban and seize control of the pipeline by military force.
Afghanistan is called the “Graveyard of Empires” for good reason. No one ever, including the mighty Soviets, has ever won a war in Afghanistan.
According to an inside source, Holbrooke, 69, was in a meeting on Friday while meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when an injury to his aortic occurred. He was said to have walked out of her office unassisted before collapsing. He was tended to by medical personnel at the State Department and later rushed to the hospital.
What were Holbrooke’s last words to Hillary Clinton? What could have been said that would result in Holbrooke being mortally wounded? According to the Washington Post his last words to the United States Secretary of State were – “You’ve got to stop this war in Afghanistan”. Others have been killed by their superiors for suggesting defeat.
