The renewable oil that has fueled and healed the World for thousands of years.
World news Saturday, February 18th, 2012There has never been and never will be an oil shortage. Oil has been “grown” every year for thousands of years. Naturally grown oil, like olive oil, has been used to light the World since before the first Egyptian pyramid was built. It was the only oil known to man. It was the only oil used by kings, queens and common people, by Pharaohs and slaves, by the Roman Emperors and every person in their kingdoms. Why do we need to drill for oil or fight and kill for oil when we can harvest oil every year for thousands of years.
Why has olive oil been used for thousands of years to fuel the World? Olive oil lamps are a pleasing way to light your home. Olive oil is a greener alternative to toxic petroleum candles. Olive oil lamps are brighter, non toxic & hypoallergenic. A 99% renewable source which doesn’t give off odors or fumes. Cheap to run, refillable & won’t ignite if knocked over. You can also burn any vegetable oil, or liquid fat or grease in these lamps. Olive oil will burn longer than any other kind of oil or candle.
Olive oil lamps appear in the Torah and other Jewish religious sources and in the Christian Holy Bible as a symbol of “lighting” the way for the righteous, the wise, and for love and other positive values. While fire was often described as being destructive, light was given a positive spiritual meaning. The olive oil lamp and its light were important household items, and this may explain their symbolism. Olive oil lamps were used for many spiritual rituals. The olive oil lamp and its light also became important ritualistic articles with the further development of Jewish culture and its religion.
“And you shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive-oil for the light, that a lamp may be set to burn continually”. Exodus 27:20
The Jewish Festival of Lights or Hanukkah is as much a celebration of the olive oil as it is of the enduring light energy of the oil. Over 2,000 years ago the Jewish people fought against an enemy who would not allow them to practice their religious traditions. Their enemy destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem which contained many holy objects including a sacred lamp called the menorah. One small band of people, called the Maccabees, was led by a brave man named Judah. He led them in a fight against their enemies. Even though they were outnumbered the Jewish people were brave and won the battle! When Judah returned to the Temple in Jerusalem the first thing he did was restore the sacred lamp. But there was almost no oil left — only enough for one day. The lamp was filled with this oil and lit. Instead of lasting only one day, it burned brighter, and brighter, lasting eight days.
Olive oil is so deeply rooted in the history, economics and culture of the Mediterranean that the legendary Greek poet Homer referred to it as “liquid gold”.
Today, the olive tree is a symbol of peace, glory and abundance. In the times of the ancient Greeks olive trees and the sacred renewal oil they produced were believed to have the power to confer strength and youth. As such olive crowns and branches were routinely offered to deities and powerful figures in return for favors of power, wealth, health and youth.
Many historians believe that the perceived magical powers of olive oil, in ancient times, stemmed from the fact that olive trees are virtually indestructible. Olive trees thrive under the harshest conditions. In fact, olive farmers name factors such as drought and harsh winters as the ideal conditions for plentiful harvests.
Though modern consumers are not as likely to believe in the magical powers of olive oil, the ancient Greeks were not entirely wrong in placing such high esteem on this life-sustaining global commodity. That is because today, with the aid of modern science, we are just beginning to understand the amazing health benefits of olive oil. For example, modern science has proven that the ancient Greeks were not wrong in believing that olive oil is capable of conveying youth and health to its users since this super food is composed of 70% monounsaturated fats that protect us against heart disease and cancer by raising the levels of “good” cholesterol in the body and helping reduce the levels of “bad” cholesterol. Likewise, modern science has linked the consumption of olive oil to longevity due to the antioxidant effects of its phenols.
Late in the 19th century, scientists investigating olive leaf’s medicinal properties isolated a phenolic compound, oleuropein, and determined it to be part of the olive tree’s powerful disease-resistant properties. It is present throughout the olive tree and is the bitter material that is eliminated from the olives when they are cured.
In the 1850’s, medical reports described how olive leaves cured malaria. In 1969, Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company researchers performed laboratory studies on the effect of elenolic acid (the active ingredient in oleuropein) on viruses and found that it killed every virus that it was tested against.
Many studies have been performed throughout Europe and the United States scientifically backing olive leaf extract as a strong antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasitic agent, and it does not harm beneficial bacteria.
Most, if not all, man-made antibiotics suppress the immune system. Overuse of these man-made antibiotics drugs has created a crop of ‘superbug’ germs – C defile, streptococci, staphylococci, mycobacteria, clostridia, pseudomonas, salmonella, etc. that are completely unaffected by modern antibiotics. Olive leaf extract is increasingly being used as a replacement for ineffective synthetic drugs, and many health care professionals are now adding olive leaf extract in their patients’ treatment. Patient testimonies of their treatment have been overwhelming in the support of the use olive leaf extract.
Olive leaf extract has been found to be effective in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. So many, in fact, that here are just a few: Athlete’s foot, bladder infections, botulism, chicken pox, chlamydia, colds and flu, cold sores, diarrheal diseases, ear infections, E. coli, Epstein-Barr virus, fibromyalgia, food-borne illnesses, fungal infections, hepatitis A, B and C, herpes, HIV virus, human papillomavirus (HPV), malaria, measles, meningitis, mumps, pelvic inflammatory disease, plague, pneumonia, polio, rabies, ringworm, salmonella, sexually transmitted diseases, shingles, smallpox, strep throat, tropical illnesses, tuberculosis, urinary tract infections, warts, and yeast infections. Experiments using olive leaf extract in the treatment of AIDS have shown positive results.
In addition, olive leaf extract has been found to have other health benefits: Lowers blood pressure and prevents the progression of other forms of heart disease; Reduces hypertension and arrhythmia; Lowers cholesterol; Lowers blood sugar levels; relieves inflammation related to arthritis, especially rheumatoid arthritis; Improves symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and related disorders.
Extra virgin olive oil naturally contains some of the most powerful antioxidants known; fights free radical production, protecting against cancer; eradicates parasites (including the human intestinal fluke Fasciolopsis buskii which is now known to be the source of the HIV virus), from microscopic protozoa to intestinal worms; increases energy; and stimulates the immune system.
Research indicates that even amounts many times greater than the recommended usage do not produce toxic or other adverse side affects.
No wonder olive oil has been used for centuries. Not only is it a naturally produced renewable fuel it is the cure for nearly all known diseases and ailments.
The Bible contains 191 references to the healing powers of oil, most said to be referred to the use of olive oil. The Bible gives evidence that olive oil was used to light the golden lamps in both The Tabernacle In The Wilderness and The Temple In Jerusalem some 2000 years ago.
The olive tree can rightfully be called the tree of life. Not only because of its healing powers, the olive tree can live thousands of years and is disease resistant. Two giant olive trees in the town of Arraba and five trees in Deir Hanna (both in Palestine’s Galilee region) have been determined to be over 3000 years old, and all continue to produce olives.
According to scientific surveys, there are tens of ancient olive trees throughout Palestine that are 1600-2000 years old; several trees in the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem are claimed to date back to the time of Jesus. A tree located in Santu Baltolu di Carana in Sardinia, Italy is claimed to be 3000 to 4000 years old.
Dr. Morton Walker. in regards to olive oil – “it kills virtually every germ. It kills fungi, bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and parasites. It eliminates problem pathogens from your body. When you do not have infectious problems, it does not disturb the friendly flora in your gut, it only works against the pathogens, not the good guys. ”
Is it safe to eat raw olive leaves from the tree? Answer – Yes it is safe, provided the trees or nearby trees have not been sprayed with pesticides or other chemicals. Olive leaf can be taken as a liquid extract, tea, powder or capsule. Olive leaf tea brews a cup that tastes great, provides considerable health benefits, and combats free radicals almost twice as effective than green tea.
